Chrissy was pulled out of her own world moments after her violent death at the hands of Vecna, and woke up aboard the Serena Eterna; a cruise ship featuring endless amenities and food. It should have been paradise, if not for the fact that the whole thing was being powered by the passengers’ collective pain, suffering and death. Away from the restraints of Hawkins, she was able to make a handful of friends, including Eddie Munson and Steve Harrington- people she wouldn’t have had much reason to speak with at home.

Despite her misgivings about the place, she found herself developing a crush on a younger boy named Vance; after about a month of dancing around it and overthinking, she admitted her feelings and they ended up dating for a year. Things weren’t all roses and sunshine, though.

During the Christmas excursion, she was one of the unfortunate ones that died along with Steve, Eddie and a handful of others. Shortly after that, she received a package with a cute little paper ghost that granted her the fun ability to turn invisible and/or intangible at will, something she wouldn’t really pay much attention to until Vance urged her to practice just in case.

At first, Chrissy was content to live her new life aboard the ship as the whole thing felt like a major improvement over the way things had been in Hawkins. Unlike some of the others, she was generally curious about the Captain, and held no ill will toward him. Gradually, she began to wonder if it might be possible to leave the ship for good. It was a sentiment that she eventually shared with Vance, and the two of them began to make plans about where they’d go when they found a way to leave.

abilities: For most of her life, Chrissy was a normal mundane human with no supernatural abilities to speak of. Years of cheerleading have made her strong and agile on her feet. Cheerleading demands a good sense of rhythm and the ability to work cooperatively with others, both things Chrissy demonstrates in spades. Chrissy is good at putting on a good face- showing people only the best parts of herself in an effort to make them like her.

As a result of her time on the Serena Eterna, Chrissy has gained the ability to turn invisible and/or incorporeal at will. This is a voluntary thing that she has to actively be concentrating on, though her control over it isn’t the best- meaning that, sometimes, becoming emotionally compromised might trigger this against her will.

At first glance, Chrissy Cunningham is your typical girl next door type. She’s kind-hearted and friendly, willing to extend the hand of friendship to just about anyone, regardless of which social circles they happen to run in. She believes whole-heartedly in treating others the way she’d like to be treated, even going so far as to try to dissuade Jason and his buddies from bullying others. There’s a reason she’s considered the most popular girl in school, after all.

While her grades weren’t the best, Chrissy showed an amazing work ethic, working hard in her classes and keeping up with cheerleading- whether that meant putting in long hours and late nights at practice or giving her all on the sidelines at every game. Cheer was one of the bright spots in her life, and she loved it so much that she managed to climb all the way to captain of the Hawkins High squad.

Chrissy is, admittedly, a bit of a people-pleaser. She wants to be liked, so she tends to be guilty of playing the part, so to speak. People tend to make assumptions about her based on the way she looks and who her family is, and she’s more than happy to go along with those assumptions if it means that people will want her around. More than that, she’s afraid of people finding out the ugly truth. All her life, her mother has been telling her who she should be and how she should act, and she’s fairly content to go along with it because she’s desperate for approval. She’s incredibly sensitive to criticism- particularly her mother’s- taking the odd comment about her weight to heart.

Despite her friendly and open nature, Chrissy can be fairly distant, especially with people she doesn’t know well. She’s happy enough to form superficial friendships, but she’s slow to open up to new people. Trust is important to her, and ironically, it can be difficult for her to genuinely trust people with the full truth.

Above all, Chrissy is afraid. She’s afraid of disappointing her mother, and of what the older woman might do if she’s disappointed. She’s afraid of what people might think if she ever allowed them to see her as she truly is. She was afraid of what was going to happen after high school. Chrissy’s biggest fear, however, is her mother. Laura Cunningham is shown to be emotionally manipulative and abusive- berating Chrissy for gaining weight and causing her to have to let out her cheerleading uniform. It’s because of this abuse that she’s developed an eating disorder- she’s shown purging in the girls’ restroom before beginning to hallucinate, hearing Vecna (as her mother) berating her once again for her weight.

Her time aboard the Serena Eterna helped her to grow out of some of those behaviors. Being away from Hawkins, and all the limitations that came with being there, allowed her to make new friends without relying on any preconceived notions they might have about her. She learned to live a life outside of her mother’s influence, and to find things that genuinely made her happy. Most importantly, she found the freedom and courage to thrive far away from prying eyes and hurtful remarks about her weight.

-Chrissy woke up in the fog immediately following her three days of horrifying hallucinations and terror courtesy of ~~Henry~~ ~~One~~ Vecna.
-At first, she was terrified. When the initial shock wore off, she realized she was mostly just angry- about being lied to, about following her mother's insane rules for nothing, about being trapped someplace more suffocating than Hawkins.
-Chrissy is, typically, bait. She's small and light on her feet, and more than willing to use her unassuming appearance to her advantage. Years of gymnastics and cheerleading have made her strong and agile, so she's an easy pick if someone needs to distract the killer.
-She's generally willing to at least attempt to make conversation with the other survivors and the killers- or, at least the humanoid ones. She'll try to help fellow survivors in the trials, too, but she's much better suited to running than to fighting.

Job History: Chrissy is a high school student with no actual work experience. Her grades are below average; her highest, unsurprisingly is cheerleading, while her lowest is Spanish 2 and Woodworking 2.

She is, however, head cheerleader, a position that demands a certain level of work ethic, organizational skills, sportsmanship, and the ability to work as part of a team. Being chosen as head cheerleader comes with a laundry list of physical requirements as well, up to and including being the best of the best.

Suppressions: Chrissy’s biggest pretend is the mask she wears; the perfect golden girl, beloved by her peers and teachers, with the perfect boyfriend, and the perfect house, and the perfect life.

The truth, however, is a bit darker than that. Chrissy is struggling- has been struggling for a while, with auditory and visual hallucinations. It’s affecting her ability to sleep at night, and to distinguish fantasy from reality. Things reach a breaking point, and she decides to seek out drugs in a last-ditch effort to solve her problems, rather than reaching out to someone for help. Her lack of self-confidence makes Chrissy the perfect target for someone like Vecna. The persona she hides behind is almost too effective, though, as evidenced by the fact that none of the people closest to her seem to have any idea that something is wrong. In the end, it’s a boy she hasn’t spoken to since middle school that manages to see through it.

Chrissy is typically seen smiling, with a kind word for anyone she might cross paths with, believing it necessary to put on a pleasant face for everyone.

Greatest Fear: Her mother- or more specifically, the thought of her mother’s disappointment. Laura Cunningham is shown to be emotionally manipulative and abusive- berating Chrissy for gaining weight and causing her to have to let out her cheerleading uniform. It’s because of this abuse that she’s developed an eating disorder- she’s shown purging in the girls’ restroom before beginning to hallucinate, hearing Vecna (as her mother) berating her once again for her weight.

Greatest Desire: To be confident enough to drop the mask on a permanent basis, though she’s terrified of disappointing the people around her when they realize she’s nowhere near as perfect as she’s been pretending to be.

Greatest Regret: Her biggest regret is being too afraid of shattering her perfect image, of asking for help, of reaching out to someone she might have become friends with despite what people would have said about it, of standing up to her mother.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

VISUAL: Chrissy has a petite figure with big blue eyes and a pretty face. At 5'3, she's a bit on the shorter side. She wears her cheer uniform- with or without the sweater- a lot because she's at practice a lot. Outside of that, she favors skirts and dresses in bright colors or jewel-tones. In colder weather, she'll add sweaters and leggings and scarves to her wardrobe.
AURAL: Her voice is high and sweet; though it can become shrill if she's distressed.
OLFACTORY: Chrissy smells clean and prefers fruity or floral scents. Vanilla, lavender and plumeria are particular favorites.
DEMEANOUR: The face she shows the world is bright, cheerful, happy. The truth, however, is a little different.
